During the ALBA-TCP meeting, President Diaz-Canel called for unity to confront the onslaught of the Trump administration.
On Monday, the member countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America – Peoples’ Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP) are meeting in Caracas in an extraordinary session to analyze issues of great importance for the region.

This meeting’s agenda includes matters such as the assessment of progress made toward common economic, social, and political objectives set during the 24th ALBA-TCP Summit, which took place in December 2024.
Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel began by recalling that U.S. President Donald Trump reinstated Cuba on the list of “State Sponsors of terrorism” without any evidence or justification.
“We want to take this opportunity to thank the ALBA-TCP countries for the efforts made to remove Cuba from that list… The previous U.S. government had to publicly recognize that there was no reason to keep our country on that fraudulent and spurious list,” he said.
“But the issue is not just Cuba. All Latin America and the Caribbean is under threat. Only by uniting, we will be able to confront the oligarchic and imperialist counteroffensive that sustains this threat,” the Cuban leader warned.
“Today the government of the United States intends to define the options for our countries, namely, either to submit or to be objects of aggression. “From day one, the new US administration has shown total disregard for the Latin American people and their institutions with a gross use of lies and manipulation,” Diaz Canel stated.
“Quotes, stereotypes and generalizations are used to label millions of innocent people as criminals for being Latin American and Caribbean. The US government threatens and tries to legitimize the imposition of unilateral coercive measures without respect for the laws of other countries,” he added.
At the ALBA-TCP meeting, the Cuban president also called for the need to implement development policies to guarantee the well-being of the population in the new international geopolitical context.
“We support the AgroALBA initiative, which made progress with the signing of a framework agreement at the 24th ALBA-TCP Summit in Caracas. Now it is time to work at the bilateral level to establish modalities that contribute to increasing food production and guaranteeing our food and nutritional security,” he said.
“It will be essential to establish maritime and air communication routes that improve the connection between the countries involved in regards to artificial intelligence,” Diaz-Canel also pointed out.
